I Heart Snail Eggs

I love the swirls and whorls of triton snail eggs.

These mollusks get together and make beautiful art laying the foundation for future generations.

Each casing can have between 1600-2000 eggs, and when they hatch, the itty bitty snails hangout as plankton for a few months before settling down to important snail business.

This business includes terrorizing chitons (one of my fav under appreciated animals) sea urchins and tunicates as they are voracious predators. They have a radula that they use to drill through the tough shells or exoskeletons of their prey and the hairy bits on their shell stop colonizing encrusting life from taking root and weighing them down with oppressive policies.
