Herring spawn

This year I am celebrating the coming of spring and Easter Weekend on a boat off the coast of Northern British Columbia near the Alaskan Border.

Instead of bright plastic Easter eggs we are surrounded by delicate, tiny herring eggs.

Here the Pacific Herring have laid their eggs on the shores of the inlets and bays.

The next generation of these little fishes lay thick on the hemlock bows the people of the Gitxaała Nation have placed in their traditional harvest areas.

It is incredible to witness this richness of life!
