Go Fish!
Nettie Wild and Scott Smith have created a cinematic work of art surrounding the herring spawn event off Vancouver island.
I worked with @maxwelhohn and @russell.john.clark to capture some of the underwater scenes in this film during the annual migration of Pacific Herring.
@nettiewild and Scott brought together an excellent team and executed their vision creating a stunning visual piece that is now playing at the Comox Valley Art Gallery.
Artist statement: “GO FISH was made with the participation of both environmentalists and members of the fishing fleet. Our hope is to get everyone in the same room together with our fish…. wondering at the beauty and power of the spawn, and pondering our relationship to it. GO FISH seeks to bring a curious lens to capture the poetry and complexity of one of the greatest shows on earth.”
I really loved working on this project that helps bring people together instead of dividing them over a fishery that has at times brought out the worst in people of our community.
Incredible music and sound by Michael Brockington and Owen Belton.
