Tiare Boyes
Underwater Camera Operator, Assistant, Photographer, Artist
I am an underwater camera operator, photographer, commercial diver and ocean plastics artist. My life has always revolved around the ocean; understanding how we can be good neighbours to our marine cousins, as well as sharing the incredible beauty and amazing underwater life with others in an enjoyable and educational manner drives my creativity. My passion is being immersed in the marine world, both at work and at play and showing others the incredible world that lays just below the surface.

“Turning ocean garbage into art gives me a deep sense of satisfaction. It’s a small, tangible way to help people think about the consequences to our blue planet of our plastic waste.”
Buoy Art
Marine plastics are threatening the health of our ocean ecosystem, from plastic packaging to lost fishing gear. I choose to recycle old fishing buoys as my canvases that are donated by fisherman, or collected when beach combing. My art work is endlessly inspired by the marine life of Vancouver Island; I use my photography as a reference for my art and paint my visions of a healthy marine ecosystem.
Underwater Photography
I try to communicate not only the beauty of our chilly Pacific waters, but some of the personalities you can encounter there. Each species of marine organism has an incredible story to tell; amazing adaptations, colourful predation, and intricate courtship rituals, there is a lifetime of learning to be found underwater, and it drives my creative endeavours.
